    Key Note Speaker

  • "The World of the 21st Century Woman" weekend conference will be held on April 4-6, 2003 at Soyuzivka, in Kerhonkson, NY. We are bringing together women from our communities/"hromadas" to meet in a stimulating atmosphere, to listen, to interact and network with each other. The conference will touch on and address issues that are important and close to our professional development and personal lives. In addition, we plan to bring up the general challenges and difficulties facing organizational membership and community service passivity.

With the focus on the Ukrainian American woman, we cannot ignore the plight of our sisters in Ukraine.(e.g.,the alarming AIDS statistics, poor preventive health education, trafficking of women) With this in mind, UNWLA is introducing and initiating a new women's health fund to assess and address some of these issues. This conference will be a kick-off for this important program. We hope to join hands with our fellow Soyuzanky in Ukraine to bring this effort into the forefront.

The program will begin Friday evening the 4th and continue through early Sunday afternoon. To fully participate in this conference and start the camaraderie early, we advise arrival on Friday evening. The evening will begin with a wine tasting, feature an art exhibit of eleven Ukrainian American artists, as well as a book reading by Irene Zabytko of her latest novel. Saturday will feature a day of session presentations and panel discussions. A cocktail hour on Saturday evening will be followed by a banquet with entertainment by Luba Goy and Charivnyj Homin. Following Mass on Sunday, the focus will turn to issues related to the Ukrainian community — both in the U.S. and Ukraine. This promises to be an informal and exciting weekend not to be missed.

Registration on Friday will begin at 4 p.m., on Saturday 8 a.m. For pricing and contacts and for additional information, please see www.UNWLA.org Calendar. Advance registration only. For registration forms, please see www.Soyuzivka.com. Please call directly to Soyuzivka (845) 626-5641 for room reservations.
